Arts Initiative

Education and engagement in the fine arts are an essential part to change in the community. We use dance, theater, music, and art to help build the self-confidence of our youth.

Life Skill Groups

At The OAT Foundation, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in meeting the needs of the people. Life skills are by no means an easy feat, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can facilitate progress in this area. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support.


Groups include Mentorship, Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention, Victims of Sexual Abuse, Trauma Focus Series, Anger Management, Workshops Recovering For Life, and Substance Abuse Programs.

Community Development

Doing What’s Needed

Through our Community Development, we have the potential to make a real and positive change in the community. This is one of our key areas of focus here at The OAT Foundation, and a source of much success for our Non-Profit Organization. Get in touch with us today and see how you can lend a helping hand with this program. Every 5th Saturday join us at Heritage Nursing Home.

Support Services

Tackling the Issue

The OAT Foundation offers a variety of accessible groups—some with regularly scheduled, ongoing meetings and others offered on a limited schedule. Current support and educational groups include:

  • "No More Trauma" Healing Group  02/04/20 -03/10/20,  Tuesdays 6:30 pm

  • Recovery Group

  • Anger Awareness

  • Domestic Violence Basics

  • Contact: 757-367-5543 for specific information, meeting times and locations. To attend any of these groups, we require an initial intake interview.

Education & Outreach

Dr. Virginia F. Barnett Scholarship Upcoming Events

Scholarship applications are now being accepted. We are looking for two high school seniors, with a minimum of a 2.5 gpa, to award a $500 scholarship to. Contact us today if you are interested. Deadline for applications: March 30, 2020.

Join us for our annual HBCU College Tour this Spring, April 13-14, 2020. For only $175, high school students will tour Hampton University, Morgan State, Howard University, and the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. Lodging, Transportation, and Meals are included in the fee!
